At COC we
involve the people supported in the process of obtaining employment as much as
possible through a person-centered approach, called the Personal Vision Plan
(PVP). Each person, with the assistance of his/her team, decides what their
goals are and the types of job(s) they would like to pursue. COC provides
on-the-job training and support to help people learn the necessary job duties
in order to be successful. The staff persons who provide the supports are
referred to as Work Skills Supervisors. |
FBE (Facility Based Employment):
COC provides paid work in a variety of facility-owned businesses or
contracted work sites for people with disabilities. Facility based employment
is located in Pella, Oskaloosa, and Indianola. Services are provided to over 30
different companies and we have over 150 people working to provide these
services. COC's employees meet the deadlines and quality standards required by
each company with which COC has a contract. Some of the various jobs include;
small parts packaging, general assembly, mail processing, digital document
recording, shredding, delivery, and wood working.
| At the
Indianola location COC also conducts training in various life skills such as:
independent living skills, social/interpersonal skills, and communication
skills. |

CBE (Community Based
Employment): Community Based Employment (CBE) provides
assistance in finding and maintaining employment in contracted and
non-contracted work environments to people with disabilities. The Community
Based Employment programs (department) focus on finding the right job match for
each person placed in a (work environment) community business. coordination.
COC currently has over 60 people placed in a wide variety of jobs
including working in retail or grocery stores and restaurants, meal delivery,
cleaning businesses and churches, and working in factories. This program is
currently operating in Pella, Knoxville, Oskaloosa, Indianola, and Des Moines.
Staff persons at COC take pride in helping people find jobs they enjoy, and in
helping them learn to do their job as independently as possible. Many people
have received COC's services, found a job they enjoy, and have learned to do
their job. At that point COC staff persons can reduce their support, and let
the person work as independently as possible. |
